General Aspects
- WMS and WFS OGC-standards compliant and thus free coupling with other systems/services (no vendor lock-in). Therefor easy to add free map data to the map viewer.
- Open Source and thus free to use (LGPL-licence).
- Support of all common browsers.
- Suitable for Android tablets.
- Multilingual (English, Dutch and German).
- Attractive 'look and feel'.
- Intuitive control (Geoide Viewer as well as Geoide Author). No specific training necessary.
- Fully configurable via user friendly Geoide Author
- Comprehensive WEB-based Help via Wiki (this Geoikia).
- Built-in own server-component based on Flash. This means that files to be transferred are relatively small, which is profitable while working with great amount of layers and/or small bandwidth (such as UMTS).
- Support of tile map services WMTS en TMS, for quick response. The possibility of load-balancing gives further advantages in case of growing number of users (scalability).
- Configuration separated from application software. Therefor easy updating and possibility to set-up multiple environments with same configuration. For instance a test environment and a production environment.
- Working with different Geoide configuration within one environment. For instance setup of applications with specific functionality (buttons) per user-group. Fire-up via application picker.
- Optional module for map animations in time. (Not in demo-application.)
Geoide Viewer
- Navigating, zooming, panning (using buttons, compass rose and/or zoom-slider).
- Zoom to x,y-location.
- Via legend automatic zoom to right level for visible map-data.
- Layer order temporarily adjustable via drag and drop in legend. (Set layer order permanently via Geoide Author)
- Drop-down window for overview map including zoom area and ability to pan via overview map.
- Refresh interval for layers is adjustable. Use the Geoide Author to set the time interval for layer refreshment in the Geoide Viewer. This is important for layers which contain real time data (Such as vehicle positions).
- Several map information retrieval options (pop-ups, 360º images (Not in demo-application.), reading tables, retrieve reports, hyperlink-coupling, aliases via tables and columns adjustable).
- Editing of alphanumeric data and geometries (points, lines, polygons), stored by WFS-T. For instance for adding remarks (annotations), registrations of notifications and adding objects with object-information (free text fields and combo-boxes).
- Authorization options such that user can edit only his own data.
- Options to make whole table editable or set specific columns on read-only.
- Red-lining (Not in demo-application.).
- Map Tips: quick view of map object properties.
- Button to alter maps (with different layer control and legend). For instance to show various thematic maps of the same area.
- Automatic legend including legend-symbol after configuration of layers via Geoide Author.
- Automatic reading of WMS group layers.
- Reports (coupling with Jasper Reports). Select reportable area in the map by point, line, rectangle or polygon with user defined buffer area. Reports on data of selected area and buffer area. (In demo-application not configured to the full).
- Coupling with metadata.
- Alter coordinate reference systems (e.g. ETRS89 and Amersfoort/RD for cross border projects).
- Select/filter(highlighting) of objects based on alphanumeric properties.
- Measuring of lines and areas.
- Search for addresses, plot identification or other object properties.
- Zoom to, filter and/or select found objects.
- Advanced search using operators <, >, ≤, ≥, “in between”, “wild card”, “check list”).
- Print maps using templates (A3 en A4). Selectable template-elements: Title, subtitle, font, legend, border, overview map, logo, north arrow, scale, remarks, copyright, identify-result.
- Layers to be printed are automatically adjusted to zoom level (WYSIWYG). Enable/disable layers to be printed via legend.
- Print preview.
- GPS coupling (zoom to present location).
- Add WMS layers temporarily via Geoide Viewer (Add layers permanently via Geoide Author).
- Layer transparency adjustable (one control for all layers set to "transparency adjustable").
- Layers out of zoom range are grayed out in legend. Not available layers can be disabled in legend via Geoide Author.
Security and Authorization:
- Authorization on different levels: per application, per subset of the data, assign user rights (such as edit rights). (Not configured in demo application)
- Authorization linkable to LDAP en Active Directory.
- Support by Geoide Viewer of secured services.
System management aspects:
- Two times a year application software update
- Easy embedding in website/protal.
- JavaScript-API to control the viewer from a web-page.
- Support of PostgreSQL en Oracle data bases
- Comprehensive logging in Tomcat.
Highlights concerning Spatial Planning GIS (Not configured in demo application)
- Authorization per spatial plan and/or users (or user groups)
- Comprehensive report functionality for clear overview of spatial plan information
- Searching on plan-id
Geoide Author
- User friendly GUI for configuring.
- Automatic legend, including legend symbols after configuring layers.
- Automatic reading of WMS group layers.
- Overview of map structure via tree.
- Drag en drop in tree.
- Add and delete buttons and button-bars.
- Configure items once and re-use them in different viewer configurations. This is ideal for setting up multiple viewer configurations with common basis (theme layers, base layers etc.)
- Overview of used and not-used items in the Admin tab.
